Gameplay

This is a first-person puzzle solving game that tests your wits like few others can. You travel around the Academy campus, following the story, and finding all the amazing puzzles that await you. This game is wonderfully paced with amazingly creative puzzles that vary greatly in difficulty.

The puzzles are not as simple as putting a circle into a circular hole and a door opening. Some of these are real brain teasers that will have you scratching your dome for a few minutes at a time. All of this is of course on a time limit. Thankfully, the game is very intuitive, meaning that once you get into the swing of it, you’ll start solving puzzles left right and center.

There is something amazing about the games atmosphere and how it really captures what it would be like to go to a school that is solely bent on teaching you how to be the best escapist. It comes through in the way everything is designed. Not just the puzzles, but the general layout and ambiance. Think of The Room but a bit more light hearted.

Visuals

The visuals to this game are amazing. It’s got this amazing plastic look to everything, like it belongs in Two Point Campus, but in first person instead. All the layouts to the puzzle rooms are so accurate to real life, and I found them all to have a realistic amount of clutter. That’s something that you might not realize a game is missing until you notice it. Once you see how clean a place is, it looks barren but this game doesn’t do that. Everything looks lived in and natural.

One other thing that blew me away was the quality of the character art. Utterly gorgeous character designs, all unique and drawn in a gorgeous art style. Everyone exuded an interesting aura that was reflected in how they were dressed.

Story

Contrary to what you might think, there actually is a story in this game. You must earn your entrance into the Academy, and then you must perform 10 unique feats of Escapism in order to earn the respective badges. Once you have, you will be the talk of the town and graduate with honors. This light hearted game takes a strong stance on the escape game genre and absolutely nails it at every step.
