Explore creepy landscapes and find out the impostors in Fear Surrounds. In this horror-themed whodunit mystery, players are classified as either "specters" or "good guys." It's a classic game of "werewolf" that has become increasingly popular in recent years but with a superb coat of horror paint on it.

Despite its ambitious setting, Fear Surrounds might not be the stellar horror game some players might want it to be. A lack of clear direction and messy online servers work against what this game could have been.

Guess the Ghost

In the same vein as the massively popular Among Us, Fear Surrounds pits two teams against each other, but no one is really sure who is who. The "good guys" must complete every quest on the map, but they'll have to stay sharp, as some players are actually "specters."

While it's true that the impostors (or the specters, in this case) are usually the ones with the upper hand in these games, the good guys also have some weapons of their own in Fear Surrounds.

There's a "profession" system in place for each player, allowing each character to have unique abilities in every round of Fear Surrounds. Both the good guys and the specters have access to these abilities, and there's only one of each in every game.

Much like Among Us and the Impostors mode in Fortnite, players can call a meeting after a player has been killed. While the good guys should aim to uncover the killers, the spirits must use lies and deception to hide their identities.

Haunted Mansions and Beyond

There's no sugarcoating this: the UI in Fear Surrounds is atrocious. A blend of terrible fonts and uninspired design will make you feel like you're playing someone's Unity project they made for school.

However, that all changes once you see the game's maps. Fear Surrounds features some truly spooky locations, made even worse by the paranoia that comes with these types of guessing games.

Inspired by both classic and Asian horror landmarks, the unsettling locations you'll have to explore in Fear Surrounds are more than worth the cost of admission. From a creepy mansion to a derelict hospital, you never know what might be stalking you from behind every corner!

If it wasn't for some obnoxious visual glitches, we'd say that Fear Surrounds is one of the nicest-looking multiplayer horror indie titles around. However, for some unexplainable reason, the game performance tanks whenever there's too much going on, and the lack of a proper 1080p resolution might be the final nail in the coffin for some PC enthusiasts.

It's also worth pointing out that the game's online code seems to be a tad finicky, so expect some latency issues and frequent disconnections to be even scarier than any specter you ever meet.
