Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 is an indie survival horror game featuring terrifying animatronic monsters that try to hunt you down over the course of a few nights. The game is the fourth installment in the FNAF series and is notorious for its use of creepy audio and jump scares that fans of the horror genre know and love. If you don’t enjoy getting scared then this probably isn’t the game for you, but if you do, then this game is an absolute must to play. It’s truly one of the best indie horror games around.
A story of bloodthirsty robots
Much like the other games in the FNAF series, Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 takes place across five nights that you as the player need to survive through in order to complete the game.
If you’re familiar with previous games in the series, you’ll know that they were set in a security office, but FNAF 4 takes place in a child’s bedroom instead and follows the story of a young boy whose only friends are his plush toys. Each night a new part of the plot is revealed, and there are even some easter eggs dotted about that dedicated fans may spot and appreciate. I won’t spoil anything here but rest assured that what you see is going to make your hairs stand on end, so be prepared.
A new type of gameplay
In Five Nights at Freddy’s 4, there are no security cameras seeing as it takes place in a child’s bedroom, and you’re armed with just a flashlight. You’ll have to wander around the room and use your flashlight to scare away the creepy animatronics, so stay attentive, check every corner carefully, and try to survive as long as you can.
Nightmare animatronics
The four main animatronics that are out to get you are Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy, but there’s also a fifth one that you’ll meet on the fifth night… All of these animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 are nightmare variants of the ones from the previous games, which means that their appearance is creepier and more terrifying than ever before. If you decide to download Five Nights at Freddy’s and give it a go yourself, you better be prepared for a truly terrifying experience.
Bonus levels
In addition to the five main levels, there are three bonus ones titled Night 6, Night 7, and Night 8. These all feature additional challenges that are definitely not for the fainthearted, so proceed with caution.
The fourth installment in the Five Nights at Freddy’s saga is as terrifying as ever, putting a fresh spin on the story with its change in environment. If you’re looking for a horror experience similar in intensity to Resident Evil, be sure to check this one out.
Pros:
- An authentic horror experience in a creepy environment full of tension and jump scares
- The game features an original plot that expands upon the overarching FNAF story The game relies more on skill than RNG, making the game more playable than previous games in the series
Cons:
- The game can feel a bit repetitive
- The main story isn’t super long seeing as there are only 5 levels
