Lucius is one of those games where the premise and the story is way better than the actual execution. Still, as someone who enjoys horror games, I had a very interesting time with this. I feel that if you go into the game with your expectations at the right level then you may get a lot more out of this game. Have you ever seen the Omen movies? Well, that is great as this is what the game is kind of based on.
Son Of Satan!
I just mentioned The Omen before and that really is the best comparison for what is going on in this world. Lucius is born as the result of this strange satanic ritual and on his sixth birthday, his real daddy, Satan has a few jobs for him to do so he can prove just how evil he is. That right there is a freaking awesome premise for a game in my book. That alone would be great, but it takes things a step further as there is an “investigation” into this house as so many people are experiencing accidents. The story is great and while some parts may make you scratch your head. I do feel that the premise here is what will drive most people to get through the whole game. Visually, the game is not bad at all it is not great, but what is here is done well enough.
Using What You Got!
The gameplay of Lucius takes place in the third person. You will have various missions that you have to do in order to progress. The game is very, very linear and you will go from person to person, looking for the right way to kill them. As you progress through the game, Satan will give you new abilities that you can use such as telekinesis which opens up more ways to kill people and also new puzzles for you to do as well.
I really think that the main issue with this game is that it is so linear. It is not like a Hitman game where you are free to kill a target in many different ways. In this game, you have one solution for how you do this. Moving around and using your abilities works fine, it is just the fact that the executions and the puzzles are all only able to be done in one way which holds this game back.
I really wish that I could tell you that Lucius is a truly amazing game, but it is not. The idea here of playing as Satan’s personal mini hitman is really cool. As someone who enjoys horror, I found the story and the premise really cool and interesting and this was what drove me to finish the game. I just wish that there was more to the gameplay in terms of what you can do and also the game is lacking a bit of polish all around.
