Full Void

I fell in love with the 90s style of Full Void the first time I saw the game! This is a retro style 2d puzzle platformer that has both style and substance and it is a game that I have really enjoyed following the development of. There have been some great streams of the developers playing this game and that has gotten me even more excited for it. We have had some big hitters in 2023, but this is right near the top of my favorite indie games released this year.

Will We Ever Learn?

I feel like as far as the story goes, Full Void has come out at the perfect time. There has been all this stuff in the news about advanced AI these days and that is what is at the heart of the story here. The setting of the game is a dystopian future that is ruled by an AI that went rogue. Society is a freaking mess and for some reason, only children are free. We are trying to survive in this world and also discover what really is going on.

Puzzling And Platforming

Full Void is a puzzle platformer and you need to navigate your way through this hell of a future in order to survive. You will need to watch your step and try to navigate the world, but there are also plenty of puzzles for you to solve as well. There is this handy hacking tool that you can use and this is what is going to be used to mostly get you out of any trouble that you find yourself in. I just love the whole idea of this and think that it is the kind of game that is a whole lot of fun to actually play. Like classic games of the 90s, you go from one screen to the next so you never know what is waiting for you until you take that step or a leap of faith!

I Like The Way You Move!

Hey, that was a fun Outkast reference there wasn’t it? I know that it will be the pixel art that catches most people’s attention in Full Void as it is awesome. It has a very moody, kind of Bladerunner style about it and that is something I like. However, it is the very fluid animation here that I think helps gives this such a cinematic feel to it. The lighting effects are very well done and at first, I did not even notice them, but they help add a lot of drama and style to the game. I also like how the soundtrack has that 90s Amiga game style to it which just helps add to the personality of the game.

Inspired By The Greats

Before I read anything about Full Void I saw the trailer and a couple of games came to mind and those were the classic Prince of Persia and Out of this World. Turns out that is by design as the developers were inspired by many of the greats on the Amiga and that is actually the best way to describe the whole vibe that this game has going on, it is like something that would have been a huge hit on the Amiga many years ago. I think those that were into Amiga and PC games in the 90s will love the whole vibe that this has going on.

Pros:

• I love the world that they have created here
• The way the game looks and moves is fantastic
• It has some fun, tricky, and epic puzzle platforming gameplay
• This is such an awesome throwback to classic Amiga games from the 90s!

Cons:

• If games like Prince of Persia never did it for you, this may not win you over
• So far, it looks like this game is only going to be on PC
