GRID Legends

I do feel a bit sorry for Grid Legends. This game is coming out in between the last Forza offering and the next Gran Turismo game! That is a lot to live up to, but Codemasters and EA do look like they are going all in with this and hopefully, it will be the shot in the arm the series needs. I have to be honest after the last game (2019 I think) I thought that this series perhaps was dead! Well, it is not and today we are looking at some of the standout features.

Driven to Glory

Most of the promo material that we have seen for GRID Legends has been centered around the main single player mode which is a story mode called Driven to Glory. I love the idea of this, being a new driver on an up and coming race team that is trying to make their mark!

The story is told through FMV and it looks fantastic, the way they blend the real actors with the “game” scenery is very cool, Codemasters said that they use the same techniques that are used in the show, The Mandalorian which is cool.

Does It Matter?

As cool as the whole Driven to Glory thing in GRID Legends is, I do have a pretty big issue with it. The story is fine, but the story does not change, it is like nothing that you do will affect the cut scenes. You are supposed to be on this up and coming team that is struggling to get by, but even if you win every race, you are in the story never reflects that. Granted, with this being FMV, it would have been way too hard to record content for every scenario, but it may lead to a bit of a disconnect for some players.

Tight And Smooth The actual racing action here is way more fun than it was in the last GRID game. GRID Legends has a much tighter grip on the track, no matter the kind of car you are driving, you will probably find it a lot easier than the last game. While this is great for me, I am sure there will be some purists who may see this as dumbing things down, and to be honest, I get where those types of people are coming from.

So Much Racing Action

There is so much content in GRID Legends that there is no way I can cover it all here. From your standard races to modes like elimination which is my favorite, boost races, and the awesome drift mode which is making a comeback here. There is lots for you to do here either on your own or against people online. Speaking of online, you can create all kinds of fun races for you and your friends to partake in here, so I see this being a pretty big hit with the online racing community. The vast number of vehicles and tracks on offer to is sure to stop people from getting bored with this one too quickly.

While I think what they are doing with GRID Legends is pretty interesting and cool and it does look like fun. This is coming out at a really bad time.

Pros:

• I love the idea of the new FMV story mode
• There are many types of races to have fun with
• I am sure this is going to be an absolute blast when played with friends
• I like how there are tons of cars and tracks to choose from

Cons:

• I just cannot see the Forza or the GT crowd caring much about this
• The story is neat, but no matter what you do it seems like it will play out the same way each time
