The right to bear arms! That’s what it’s all about right? The freedom to have a boom stick in your house and if needs be, fend off any undesirables. Gun owners love to take their weapons to the gun range and shoot them, they love to head out into the open country and hunt for their grub. However, many gun nuts will tell you, it’s the maintainable and modification that is the best part of owning a gun. It’s therapeutic, it’s rewarding and thanks to Gunsmith Simulator. It’s widely available to just about everyone.

This simulator plays like a number of other detailed sims such as City Skylines, car mechanic simulator, House Flipper, Powerwash Simulator and Lawn Mowing simulator. This game aims to offer a rewarding and detailed look into the world of gunsmithing. However, does this game blow everyone away, or does it jam when trying to pull the trigger? We find out in our review of Gunsmith Simulator.

Shoots Hard and True

Let’s begin with the visuals for this game. The title offers visuals that are right out of the top drawer. They still have that rubbery sheen which comes with Unity development. However, they are right at the upper echelons of what is possible. The animations are slick, the attention to detail with each gun model is superb and the lighting is also surprisingly great too. So while it isn’t perfect, for a simulator game the graphics are well above average.

Then onto the gameplay on offer here. If you are into the subject matter, there is a lot to do here. There is a wide variety of guns on offer, plenty of modifications to add to each weapon, a variety of jobs to do to ensure each weapon is in working order and when you are done, you have the ability to make use of the photo mode to showcase your talents to your peers. It can become a little repetitive after a few hours but for an enthusiast, there is enough to satisfy you for sure.

The only aspect that will be a let-down to gun fans is that the game doesn’t really have a structure. There is no campaign, no entrepreneurial aspect to the game, no resource allocation. It’s just building and disassembling guns as you see fit. Honestly, we would have expected some structure to this game as the core loop relies on the gamer being very committed right from the offset. However, we would say that many gamers will drop out after an hour or two.

The Verdict

The game is competently designed, offers a lot of detail and content, plus it looks super. The downside is that the game does very little to grab the player and sink the hooks in. So after an hour of playing this title, you will likely call it a day and step away for good.
