Hunt Showdown is a suspenseful multiplayer shooter where you and a team of bounty hunters must locate and dispatch dangerous monsters that are roaming the swamps of Louisiana. Supporting up to twelve players at once, you'll need to search for clues and defeat bosses if you want to earn the precious bounty. However, once the bounty is secured, all bets are off, as other players are free to poach your winnings. While Hunt Showdown doesn't contain a single-player campaign, the unique gameplay is more than fun enough to make this game worthwhile.
Main Game Features
- Hunt monsters across three unique maps
- Exciting first-person shooter gameplay
- Two multiplayer modes to enjoy
Hunt Showdown is a multiplayer game that plays similarly to other shooters like Evolve, where you and a team of squadmates work together to locate and defeat powerful enemies. At the start of each match, you'll enter one of the three maps and are tasked with surviving while efficiently exploring and collecting resources. Ammo is rare and hard to come by, so you're encouraged to stay accurate with your guns and conserve bullets when possible. As you play, you'll earn experience whether you win or lose, which can be used to upgrade your bounty hunters for later matches.
Besides shooting through enemies with FPS skill, players can also lay down traps and obstacles to catch other hunters and monsters. Each boss monster requires a slightly different tactic, as they have unique movement patterns and attacks to dodge. There are four bosses in total, including a huge spider, a crazed butcher, and more. Hunters can use their Darksight ability to reveal important clues, nearby enemy hunters, and more, allowing for preparatory strategizing.
Modes of Play
There are two main multiplayer modes in Hunt Showdown, including the Bounty Hunt and Quickplay. In Bounty Hunt, you and a small group of players explore one of three maps, killing AI-controlled enemies while hunting down select boss monsters. To discover the location of a boss, clues must be collected by searching buildings and completing smaller objectives. Once you've gathered the bounty, you must search for an extraction point quickly, as other hunters can now kill you and take the goods. Similar to the mechanic seen in Kane & Lynch, stealing a bounty is a viable strategy that can help you come out of a match on top, even if you fail to locate the boss in time.
Quickplay is a secondary mode that is often shorter than Bounty Hunt, but offers a more action-packed experience. This mode is similar to a battle royale game like Fortnite, where players only have one life and must survive for fifteen minutes before they can escape. When each match starts, you will have limited equipment to use, so scavenging for better weapons and more ammo is very important. Although lobbies are limited to twelve players, you can still have a lot of fun with this battle royale spin-off.
If you enjoy multiplayer titles and want to try out something new, Hunt Showdown is a wonderful opportunity for some fresh gameplay. When compared to other popular FPS titles, Hunt Showdown takes familiar concepts but adds a lot of suspense, making matches more nerve-racking than you'd think.
With its wicked and creative creature designs, risk-or-reward gameplay loop, and fun modes, this is one FPS game you can play over and over without getting bored.
