IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad offers two modes:

• Career Mode. Become one of the many pilots sent to war. Complete missions, return to base in one piece and read the news in the headquarters newspaper about the real operations that took place between 1942 and 1943. Your efforts and bravery will be appreciated. Go through the ceremonies of the historically correct medals of those times.
• Free Flight Mode. Missions give you experience points and unlock new aircraft colorings, but there is no historical story or career progression
