I am pretty excited to talk about Linelight as this is one of the few games that my wife actually really enjoyed. It is a Zen-like puzzle game that is relaxing to play, but at the same time has some quite fiendish puzzles for you to solve the further into the game you go. It is the kind of game that is perfect for little bite-sized chunks of gaming and it is also the kind of game that is accessible to pretty much everyone, no matter their skill level when it comes to video games.
Dashing From Point A To B
In Linelight, we play as a line of light that is called Dash. We need to help Dash get from point A to point B. That is all there is in regards to the story and to be fair, for a puzzle game of this type I think that it is more than enough.
I Like To Move It, Move It!
You control Dash with either the keyboard or a controller. You move him along a line and you have to get him to the end of the level. There are six different worlds and each world has many different levels. Linelight is one of the best games for teaching you how to actually play it. It starts off with the puzzles having you just needing to find your way to the end, but more and more mechanics are introduced such as avoiding an enemy line, getting a key to unlock something, hitting a switch to move a line, and more. These are introduced one at a time and you learn them through playing. It is very cleverly done and while some levels are very tough, the whole game has a very relaxing vibe to it.
Enjoying It On Your Own Time
I managed to plow through this game in just a few sittings, but I do not think that Linelight is intended to be played this way. Part of the reason my wife got so into this game was that she could play it for five minutes here or ten minutes there. In that regard it is fantastic and I kind of wish that was the way I went about playing the game. There are some secret levels to be found, but by the time I had gone through all of the proper levels, I felt I was done with the game.
Putting You In The Mood
The whole vibe of this game is there to help you chill out. It is nice and bright and the sound that they have gone for could not be any more perfect. Unless you have played Linelight, you are probably wondering how can a game about lines and light can be that great when it comes to the presentation, but trust me when I tell you it really is awesome.
The only thing I will say is that while this game is aimed at everybody, I have heard that those who are colorblind really struggle to play this game so that is something to consider.
It is so hard to find the perfect puzzle game these days, but if you were to ask my wife, she would put Linelight very close to the top of her list of the best puzzle games. I had a lot of fun with this too! It is a very cleverly made puzzle game that offers the perfect amount of challenge to make you think, but at the same time never get you stressed out or take you out of that Zen-like state the game puts you in, in the first place.
