The reason that I decided to give Lucinda Green's Equestrian Challenge a try was that a YouTube channel I am a huge fan of did a video on it. They put it as part of their worst games ever series so I thought it would be fun to see if this is a game that is so bad it is good. Well, I have to say that this is far from being one of the worst games I have ever played. Do not get me wrong, it is not amazing, but if you like horses then there is some fun to be had here.
Taking Care Of Your Horse
The first thing I want to talk about in Lucinda Green's Equestrian Challenge is looking after your horse. This is where you build a bond with your prized steed and make sure that they are ready for the events that you are going to be putting them into. You need to feed and clean them. Cleaning is way harder than it needs to be! The reason I say this is that you have to use circular motions to clean the horse, but the game never actually tells you this! I figured it out by complete accident.
The Big Three
The main gameplay of Lucinda Green's Equestrian Challenge is set around three different events that you need to take part in. You want to do better in each event so that you can earn points that you can put towards your horse to make them better. The first event we are going to talk about is dressage. This is like a dancing game where your horse will prance around and you have to press buttons at the right time. This is incredibly easy and I did not fail a single time I was doing this.
The next event in Lucinda Green's Equestrian Challenge is show jumping. This is not all that hard either, but there is a bit more of a challenge here. You have to go through a course and jump over various obstacles, the challenge comes from learning the course so you know when to go fast to make a jump and slow to take a corner. The last event is the cross country and this is the most challenging event. You cannot just go all out as your horse will get tired. It is all about pacing and knowing when to go fast and when to ease off.
As the title of the game is Lucinda Green's Equestrian Challenge, you will not be surprised to hear that she is all over the game. You get little bits of information about her and she is your mentor. Granted I have no idea who she is or who any of the riders in the game are, but it seems authentic enough. For a game that was released during the PlayStation 2 era, the visuals are not all that bad. Some of the characters have strange-looking faces, but for the most part, the visuals are passable. The game has a kind of relaxing soundtrack to it and there is voice acting which is provided by Lucinda Green… well I think it is, I have no idea what she sounds like in real life so it could be an imposter for all I know!
I went into Lucinda Green's Equestrian Challenge expecting something just terrible, but it is actually not that bad at all. I think for a kid that likes horses this would be a pretty fun time. The reason I say “for a kid” is because the game is very easy. The cross country may pose a bit of a challenge, but even that is not exactly difficult. So yeah, this game actually turned out way better than I thought it was going to!
- It features Lucinda Green… whoever that is!
- The presentation is not that bad at all
- The three events all play differently
- Younger gamers who like horses will probably have a lot of fun with this
- The game is very, very easy
- The music never really changes and can get annoying after a while
