Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness

Based on an anime I did not even know existed, Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is an action RPG that looks to me like it could be one of the surprise hits of 2022! This is the first game based on this anime which has proven to be very popular. I learned about this game before I did the show, but it has made me interested enough to want to watch the first season and see what it is all about.

A Timeless Retelling

Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness has two different stories that you get to play through. The story is a fantasy type story about two characters, Riko and Red as they find out about the Abyss and make their way through it. Now, as I write this, I have not seen the anime, so I cannot speak to how faithful it is, but it seems like fun stuff and it is basically a retelling of the first season.

A New Hero Emerges

They probably could have released Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness with just having the retelling of the first season and that would have been ok. However, there is a second story to play through in the game where you play as a new character an unnamed diver who is heading to this last unclaimed Abyss in search of fame and fortune. It sounds like a lot of fun and I am sure for those who have seen the anime, it will be cool to take part in an original story. The story was done under the supervision of the series creator so that is pretty cool!

Being Faithful To The Fans

Again, I have not yet seen the anime as I write this, but I did check out a few clips on YouTube and it seems like Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is trying to be as faithful to the source material as possible. It has a great look to it with interesting looking characters, environments, and some great CG cutscenes from what I have seen so far. However, what I am sure will really give it that extra level of authenticity will be the fact that they managed to get the voice actors from the show to reprise their roles here.

Action In The 3rd Degree

As far as the gameplay of Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness goes, this is a typical action RPG. It takes place in a full 3D world and you will need to find new items, complete quests, and put a beating on a whole bunch of creatures that dare come your way as you make your way through the Abyss. It looks to be a pretty straightforward kind of game and I think that as this is the first game to be released based on this anime, this was the right approach for the developer to take. It may not look quite as high end as other anime based games, but I do feel like this is a good start.

As this game is available on everything, I am actually thinking that it will be the Nintendo Switch version of Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness that I ultimately end up getting. I am a big anime fan so I do not know how I never came across this show before, especially as I have buddies that love anime too so you would have thought that one of us would have been into this! Anyway, it looks like a fun action RPG and it will be cool to get in on the ground floor of a new series that looks like it is picking up a great deal of steam.
