When you are on the lookout for a new game to try out, you might want to keep an eye on Monster Harvest. This title, set for release finally in August 2021, looks to build upon a very interesting set of gameplay ideas. Publisher Merge Games is working with Maple Powered Games to develop something very interesting indeed. The game itself comes with a very simple monster collecting and farming combination, offering two very popular gameplay loops that have become a must-try for any gamer today. Can Monster Harvest, though, live up to its extremely lofty ambitions?
Combining two world-class titles into one
So, the combination of monster collection paired with farming and building makes you think of two titles: the PoKemon series, and Stardew Valley. This game looks to take ideas from both and blend them into its own little world. Like other monster catchers like Temtem, though, this game is going to need to do a lot of work to stay unique.
With inspirations as obvious as the ones for this game are, then, players will need to be ready to see some striking similarities. However, the games own unique art style paired with its own collection of intriguing monsters ensures that Monster Harvest should never feel too inspired in the wrong ways.
It’s a game that should definitely appeal to those who enjoy a spot of adventure paired up with monster hunting. It’s got an addictive gameplay loop that, if it can live up to expectation upon release, should be very fun indeed.
Monster hunting and farming in one unique title
While some might immediately see a game that lacks try unicity, Monster Harvest does a lot to build on its inspirations. Its interesting art style paired with its great looking cast of creatures makes sure that this does not feel like a rip-off. Instead, you can see the inspirations. If Monster Harvest can find a way to live up to the standard of the games it is inspired by, we could be looking at a classic for PC and for handheld consoles for years to come.
It might lack some of the particular energy that you could get from a pure farming or monster collection title. Yet Monster Harvest seems to make up for that by leaning heavily on its own quirky charms. From what looks to be a very inventive script to a series of interesting characters and a plotline that seems worth caring about, there is something about Monster Harvest that should intrigue fans of these two genres.
When combined into the right mixture, this could create the kind of highly addictive game that will keep you coming back for a long time to come.
