Solo developer, It's Happening and publisher Yogscast Games announced a partnership to bring the unique roguelike restaurant management game PlateUp! to PC this year. The game has gathered a large online community on Discord, and public playtests have already proven hugely popular. One of the goals of this highly original title will be to completely redefine cooking games, combining restaurant empire building along with chaotic cooking and delicious service gameplay.

About the game

PlateUp! combines chaotic kitchen and restaurant management with strategic planning and development to serve up delicious roguelike like no other. Up to four players build and manage a restaurant from scratch, choosing dishes, purchasing and placing appliances - some of which can be chained together to create ambitious automated kitchens - cooking the food and serving customers. Players have free rein to design their restaurant, which will expand and develop between turns, with additional content and challenges unlocked with progression.

PlateUp! is a frantic 1 to 4 player feed 'em up that combines chaotic cooking and restaurant management with strategic planning and development to deliver a roguelike like no other. Cook and serve your dishes, design and decorate your restaurants and expand your culinary kingdom with new unlocks, skills, and dishes in procedurally generated locations with permanent progression. Hire your friends for classic culinary action, or do it all yourself.

PlateUp!'s engaging roguelike structure ensures that it is equally fun in both single-player and co-op mode (local or online) and, thanks to its randomized nature, no two races will ever be the same. It has been a big hit on both Twitch and YouTube.

A very original cooking game

Cooking games are pretty common in the gaming world, believe it or not. And something that really stands out about them is how varied and original they can be. You can have games like My Disney Kitchen that were pretty much recipe books for kids in a video game style. On the other hand, you have the more popular games like Cooking Mama.

Cooking Mama was an incredible reinvention of cooking games, but we’ll talk more about that game some other day. When it comes to direct comparison, PlateUp! Is much more similar to games like Overcooked! Where you simply just have to somehow handle a cartoony and insane kitchen.

PlateUp! Is one of those games you just have to play so that you may understand it. It's super simple in concept, but when you actually play it you'll have so much fun. Imagine explaining Tetris to someone, we all know that game is pretty simple, it's basic, and it's not really complex.

But when you go and play it, that's when you understand why the game is so fun and addicting. So, that's kinda the case with PlateUp!
