Pokemon Silver Version

Pokémon Silver Version (and of course Pokemon Gold Version) was what started the second generation of Pokémon games. With brand new Pokémon, a new region and a new story. It was a monster of a hit and it is regarded as not just one of the best Pokémon games. It is also not just regarded as one of the best Game Boy Color games, it is actually regarded as one of the best games of its console generation!

A New Beginning!

The story of Pokémon Silver Version takes place in the Johto region which I really do like. This time it is Professor Elm who is giving you your starter Pokémon and you can choose between, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Your rival in the game is a no-good dude who robs Professor Elm and steals a Pokémon! Do not worry you get to put them in their place during the game! The actual story feels a bit more fleshed out than the previous generation. Much of it is the same idea, you have to battle gym leaders and win badges. However, this time there is more gyms and tons more hidden stuff for you to uncover. One thing that I really like about the story is how Team Rocket is portrayed in this game.

New Features

As this was the first-second generation game, Pokémon Silver Version does add some neat features. The game actually uses a proper clock so there is now a real day and night cycle. Your Pokémon can now hold items that can come in handy and also add an element of strategy. You also have the Pokegear which is like a smartphone before smartphones were even a thing! There are a few other new things added here and there and of course there are a ton newer Pokémon for you to capture.

Legendary Pokémon

We kind of take Legendary Pokémon for granted in Pokémon games now, but it was really Pokémon Silver Version that Legendary Pokémon became a thing. Raikou, Entei, and Suicune will walk around the map and the first time you come across one is something truly special indeed. This was such a great addition to the game and one that I do feel they have gotten better at in more recent games. However, there is no denying that the addition of these Legendary Pokémon was a huge deal at the time.

What About The Graphics?

In all honesty, Pokémon Silver Version does not look way better than Pokémon Yellow did. However, I do feel that they got a great deal more out of the Game Boy Colors color pallet with this game. Pokémon Yellow looked great on a GBC, but that was also made with the original Game Boy in mind. With this game, they went all in and it certainly looks a great deal more colorful than any of the Pokémon games that came before it.

It is easy to see why so many people still regard Pokémon Silver Version as one of the best Pokémon games of all time. It is a fantastic RPG and one of the most addictive games in the Pokémon series. I really liked what they did with the story in this one and the addition of the Legendary Pokémon is just flat out awesome! Without a doubt, this is a must-play game.
