Prime of Flames is a war/strategy game that I am pretty excited about and surprised that more people are not talking about. It currently has a free demo on steam and I have played that to death and already have the weekend off when the game hits early access. To try and get more people into this, I thought I would share my thoughts on the game and let you know why if you are into strategy games, you need to be checking this out!
Getting Back To Prosperity
Ok, the premise of Prime of Flames is pretty damn awesome. For generations, various clans lived in harmony and prosperity, but then a meteorite hit and caused devastation. This led to all kinds of monsters and ghouls ravaging the land and the clans having to just eke out a living, surviving in this harsh new world. We play as a being that was around during the good times! A guider for these ancestors that once made sure humanity thrived, you now will help these tribes and clans fight their way to prosperity.
Leading Them To Victory
There is a whole lot going on in the gameplay department with Prime of Flames. You have many different clans, units, abilities, weapons, and so on at your disposal. The levels are all different (and there are lots of them) forcing you to be very careful with stuff like your unit placement, where you are on the terrain, and so on. In a game like this, you certainly do not want to rush the planning phase. I like how the gameplay is deep, but they do have some simplified mechanics for those that just want to jump in and have fun right away. You can play through the story, but there are other game modes on offer here too such as endless mode and even a boss rush.
Slicker Than Your Average!
Visually, Prime of Flames is the kind of game that at first glance does not look all that remarkable if I am being honest. However, the more I played the demo the more I appreciated the fantastic work that was done on the characters, monsters, and different areas. It is a game that is very easy on the eyes and everything has this nice and smooth look to it. In many ways, I get an almost anime kind of vibe to the game and that is meant positively! I have heard some people say that they feel it looks like a mobile game and I can certainly see why, but I will say if it does look like a mobile game, it is a very high-end and well-polished mobile game!
If these types of games are not usually your cup of tea, I will be honest with you and say that I cannot see Prime of Flames changing your mind. However, if you are someone that does enjoy a good strategy style game, I think there is a lot here to like. I have spent a lot of time with what is currently available and I have been very entertained. The combat in the game is simple, but deep at the same time and it can be quite an addictive experience overall. If you tend to gravitate towards these types of games, this is one that I highly recommend at the very least you check out the demo.
- I enjoyed the fantasy setting and story of the game
- It has a very smooth and nice art style
- The combat is very addictive
- I like how the gameplay is deep, but at the same time it is also accessible
- The translation in places can be a bit rough
- I am not sure when the game will be fully done and out of early access
