Rock em sock em robots
The original toy came out a long time ago, and was an instant classic. It's just too bad the same can not be said of the video game version of the same name.
Featuring a couple of different playing modes that all essentially work the same, the idea is to beat on your opponent until his head pops up and the match is won. Playing much like a 2D fighter, the robots can use a couple of different punches and then block and back away.
Playing in the game's title fight mode allows you to do battle with other colored robots, instead of the classic blue and red ones. Not that it makes any difference, all the robots have the same body with a slightly different head and come complete with the same attacks; a heavy punch, a light punch and an uppercut. You can back away from any attack and use the block button.
To say this game is easy is an understatement, and with the exception of a tedious 'alternating trigger pull'? in order to finish someone off or recover from a bad beating the game's controls are really simple. I found my fingers getting quite tired after ten consecutive wins in a row.
The game does provide different backgrounds for each of the fights and depending on what mode you play you can actually pick where you want to fight. Not that we're talking rocket science here since the game's graphics are below par even for a bargain priced title such as this.
The audio as well becomes grating and is completely unnecessary so if you do find yourself playing this title, you will turn down the volume after a couple of minutes of listening to the annoying drum loop that seems to keep pounding and pounding. Yeah, it does mix it up when you go from fighting to menus, but it doesn't make a difference, the game is bad, the graphics are bad, the gameplay is bad.
