Scathe

Prepare yourself for Scathe. In this first-person action game, you take control of the titular Scathe, Enforcer of the Legions of Hell. Created by the Divine Creator himself, you must prove your worth to this system by traversing the maze laid before you that is positively filled to the brim with demons. Grab your hell hammer and murder your way through the beasts of the damned and unleash your almighty fury. If you like games that test your patience as much as your skill, you’re going to love this one. Gear up and let’s jump into the madness.

Gameplay

If you like Bethesda’s Doom series, you are going to adore this title, as they are basically the same game. That is not to say it is bad, DOOM is good so this is good. You will be blasting your way through this first-person action shooter with ferocity and guile, making sure you get all the demons along the way. Using a plethora of powerups, you must make the most of your abilities and weapons to defeat as many demons as possible. You will make combined use of magic and guns to make short work of your enemies.

There are a few platformers style puzzles as well (Not as many as there are in games like Shadow Warrior 3), but beyond the combat and navigating the labyrinth, there isn’t much else to this game. I must admit, I wasn’t too angry about that. I appreciated from the start that this was a game that isn’t trying to be too much more than it is; a blood-soaked smorgasbord of rampant murderous fun. What’s not to like?

Visuals

The visuals are strikingly similar to the DOOM series, but there is a little variation in the demons. Although many fill the same basic needs to being cannon fodder, they have differences that keep them unique.

Something I did find great was the use of lighting from the environment and the explosions and muzzle flash of your weapons. There is something strangely poetic about lighting up your enemies both figuratively and literally. All the bullets are bright with streams of light coming off them, allowing you to see them clearly and react accordingly. There is not aa case of “I didn’t see it” in this so you don’t often feel cheated when you died from something shooting you.

Multiplayer

Yes, one of the games best features, this title has multiplayer. Have a couple of friends jump into your game and get to killing demons as a group. For those who slay together, stay together. You will be bale to team up with up to three friends and have each other’s backs as you explore this hellish terrain. See, once and for all, who the best demon killer in the friend group is.
