Oh, look, another Viking game. And it's an open-world survival title. Indeed we haven't seen this before anywhere? Skye is another entry into the trove of games spawning from the Scandinavian warrior's lore. So what's the attempt to set this one apart? The game is set on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, not a place typically associated with the Vikings.
Skye also promises to be a 'hyper-realistic' survival game, too. Whatever that means, they will try to turn a video game into how the Vikings managed to fend off foes and leverage resources to set up a thriving settlement. So far, it's a little hard to be convinced of a game that is seemingly similar to others of the same caliber. However, we're always open to ideas for this upcoming title.
They Came from the Skye
At the moment, little information on Skye regarding gameplay is available. However, we can deduce what we have before the early access starts. First of all, one of the key driving points is that the game map is massive and based on the real-world location of the Isle of Skye. Players can explore a vast area to set up their settlements and bid for survival.
The following intriguing notion is the attention to detail in those survival mechanics. Farming, crafting, and building require a new set of meticulous management, not just a few clicks, to keep things going. Your settlement will depend on setting up the proper defenses, cultivating your crops properly, and exploring suitable locations to survive.
There appears to be some narrative, but we have yet to be introduced to what's happening. Honestly, currently with little information available, it's hard to understand how Skye will be any different in gameplay from other Viking survival games. However, we'll give them that the visuals so far look gorgeous.
If the gameplay doesn't capture your interest, the exploration potential of this lovely island should. You'll get to climb cliffs and mountains, swim in seas and lakes, and fend off treacherous predators, with every exquisite detail added intricately. The realism level certainly will add at least something into the mix here and make Skye worth a play.
Straight Outta Valhalla
Skye is a game that is almost identical to Valheim in terms of gameplay and theme. At least that's what we think, as there's not much we know that sets them apart. But enough Viking and survival game fans are willing to give the game a whirl. Even if the title does strike a familiar tone, the replication of the Isle of Skye is still a feat worth exploring.
So we look forward to the early access beginnings of Skye, where we'll learn a little more about the game's direction. Until then, we'll learn the lore and lay of the lands of this misty island, with the hopes that our familiarity will give us a survival advantage. But with all the details to manage about living in this harsh location, it probably won't!
