Remarkably Detailed Horses

It’s clear that the developers of the game care about the horses and riding. The movement of the animals is very realistic, which is unusual in almost any game involving horses. The motion of the riders with the horse is also very realistic. One minor flaw to this is that the stirrups for the saddle are often portrayed as going over the top of the rider’s leg. The stirrup leather always goes underneath the leg, so it’s a little surprising to see such a detailed game have a flaw like this. The strong western theme is similar to Red Dead Redemption, but the lighting and graphics don’t quite measure up in Steel Ball Race.

Game Shifts To Reflect Stories

As you are riding through the game, searching for fighting spirits to help you and leveling your character, you will be asked to make choices. Some of these choices are minor, but many of them are very important. They may even shift the storyline for the entire game. The plot itself is largely a mystery, but the game promises several unique characters that will offer some personality to the game.

Secret Maps

As you are traveling around the world, secret maps will appear. These maps have puzzles you need to unravel, and mysteries all their own. Solving these puzzles will give you powerful artifacts that will help you playing the rest of the game. Fighting spirits can be one of the rewards for solving the secrets of the map.

Multiplayer

The game is listed as massively multiplayer on Steam. It’s not yet clear how players can team up or what they will be doing together. Videos on the main webpage show people fighting together, but it’s unclear whether these are other players, enemies, or AI.

The developers have not yet issued a formal release date yet. AK Studio Games has Steel Ball Race listed as “to be announced.” The game already looks fairly well developed, so we can expect to see it released sooner rather than later.
