Tadpole Treble

I have a real treat for you guys today and that is Tadpole Treble which is one of my all time favorite rhythm games ever to be made. Want to know how much I love this game? Well, I first bought it for the Wii U (remember that?) then I got it on Steam and I even got the new Encore edition that was released for the Nintendo Switch earlier this year. I freaking love this game and it is one of those games that in my opinion is ignored by many, but loved by a few and I hope to add at least one more person to the loved category today.

Getting Back To Mama

There is actually a story at play here in Tadpole Treble and it has a lot of charm to it. We play as a cute little tadpole who was living her best tadpole life when she was snatched up by a big bird! She managed to break free, but now she needs to swim back home to her frog mama.

Moving To The Beat

You control the little tadpole and you move up and down the lines. There are various obstacles in your way that you have to avoid and bubbles that you need to grab. You can also smack reeds and flowers which can launch you into the air. It is a game that is all about getting that high score and when you have a massive multiplier going, it becomes even more addictive and kind of tense. I know that the gameplay of Tadpole Treble sounds very simple, but it is the kind of thing that is fun, but also hard to master as well.

Like A 90s Mixtape

What is a rhythm game without a great soundtrack? Nothing that is what, so I am very happy to report that this game has an epic soundtrack there are many different levels and each one has its own song. The styles of music in this game are all over the place. One level can sound like a score from a movie, another has a real country twang to it and there is one that has a bit of rock and roll about it. This variety makes each level feel very unique and the first time you play through the game, it keeps you guessing as to what song will be next. As well as sounding great, Tadpole Treble is also a fantastic looking game as well. Each level has its own theme be it being chased by a turtle, stalked by piranhas, or having a bunch of badgers trying to get you from outside of the water!

You Think You Can Do Better?

Ok, so I will admit that I lack the musical and artistic talent to do this, but there is a level maker in this game. You can make your own songs and levels and then share them with the community.

I think this is pretty damn awesome and it also means that once you have mastered the levels that make up the game, you can then try your hand at some of the user created levels that are available.

Pros:

• I love the cartoon style of the visuals
• The soundtrack this game has is varied and very well done
• The gameplay is far more challenging than you would think
• You can create and share your own levels/songs

Cons:

• It is a damn shame not more people know about this game
• I found making levels really hard, but as I said, I have zero artistic talent!
