Tree of Life: Oddria!

The horizon for new games is opening wider than we could’ve ever imagined with more resources and easier access coming into the hands of potential developers to bring some awesome titles to light. Today, we’ll be checking out one of those new titles with Tree of Life: Oddria!.

History of Tree of Life

This new MMO title is one that evolved from a multiplayer sandbox game named Tree of Life that didn’t end up becoming anything popular within the gaming community. So, it eventually settled into a sort of mellow mode where the developers went quiet and kept working on the game behind closed doors. This was around the spring of 2019. They didn’t give up on the game concept they had created, and today, we finally get to see how this strong vision for a video game has grown. The new version serves as a sequel and successor to the original title.

Synopsis

Oddria is a survival video game that has co-op and competitive elements for all players as you struggle to survive and thrive on a strange island. You’ll need to gather resources and find useful tools to help you build a new home that is solid enough to help you brave the harsh nature and ancient mysteries within the environment.

Gameplay

When you wake up at the start of the game, like most survival games such as Rust, you’ll be naked with no gear or items in your inventory. Still, you’re not entirely useless and you’ll be able to begin gathering wood by smacking trees in order to build the necessary items to get started (just like in Minecraft). Once you’ve got your wood, you can create a torch to help with exploration. There’s plenty to craft right at the start, so you won’t need to invest your time in an unnecessary grind.

One fun thing about the gameplay is the addition of flesh eating zombies that emerge at night. In order to avoid them, you’ll need to have the right gear and home base to stand the nightmarish activities that take place at night. Getting stronger in Oddria is something that will require creativity and exploration skills from players. You’ll have to hunt down the wide range of powerful monsters around the island. To give you a rewarding gameplay loop, you’ll get rewards for hunting them down and finishing the challenges of the island. Once you’ve defeated monsters, you’ll be able to collect their souls and reach the top of the island.

Verdict

In Oddria, you’ll basically never get bored thanks to the presence of PvP and PvE elements along with a strong single player gameplay loop to keep solo gamers satisfied. The combat is also pretty solid as you’ll be able to dodge, parry and attack with fluid animations and responses.
