WWE 2k20

WWE 2k20 is a career style wrestling game that allows you to play many of your favorite wrestlers both in a career mode and in random fights against other wrestlers. The game is meant to be an improvement on a long series, but unfortunately falls well short of the mark.

Really poor graphics

Wrestling games have never been known for high quality graphics. WWE 2k Battlegrounds is one of the few that has okay graphics, and the rest are often downright ugly. This game follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, WWE 2K19, with some of the worst graphics out there. Despite having an impressive roster of over 200+ wrestlers to choose from in your battles, it almost doesn’t matter because you can hardly tell them apart with their lack of detail.

Lots of bugs

WWE 2k20 has a jaw-dropping number of bugs plaguing it, so don’t expect a smooth run if you’re giving this a try. Characters can outright disappear during cutscenes, entrance music can get stuck on loop, shadowing issues, and so much more. The game also crashes regularly, which is disappointing for a game that costs so much. At $60, players should be able to expect a relatively smooth experience. WWE 2k20 does not deliver in that regard.

Customization too expensive

Although the ‘currency’ is virtual money and not real money, most of the customization features are so unrealistically expensive you won’t be able to customize your character anyway. The game wants a ridiculous amount of hard to win currency for every small change. A new jacket for example can run 12,000VC. This means that even though yes you technically can customize your character, you probably won’t due to how long it would take you to get the money for it.

Mildly interesting career style

The game has managed to split from the same routine by having Wrestlers reminisce about their career as they prepare to enter the hall of fame. As they reminisce, you’ll be playing these key battles while they relive those moments. Some of these moments are as you’d expect—their first big break, their fight for an important championship belt, things like that. Sometimes you’ll be wrestling in a completely different event, such as one they’ve always dreamed of but never actually done.

Wrestling is off

In the past, games in this series have had fairly solid wrestling. Difficult opponents were genuinely difficult, but skills mattered, and wrestling felt realistic. In 2K20, all bets are off. The AI waffles between insane and impossible to defeat, to so dumb it doesn’t even know where the opponent is. Targeting also seems to be off, with it harder and hard to get in a good hit. This is a big change compared to past games in the series, which has always had relatively solid wrestling.
