You've just got to love the passion behind games like 8-Bit Adventures 2. Here we have a team of developers throwing their hearts and souls into games that rekindle the classic JRPGs of old. They do everything to create games that don't stray away from every gameplay element. The predecessor was met with enthusiasm, but the title looks to be going all out this time.
8-Bit Adventures 2 still doesn't have a release date, but it does have a demo to give us a taste of what's coming. We're looking to see a game complete with an intriguing storyline, strategic turn-based combat, a vibrant world - and of course, lots of 8-bit pixelated graphics! Let's roll back the years and join an epic quest in 8-Bit Adventures 2.
The Heart of Retro Games
8-Bit Adventures 2 has set itself clear ambitions for what it hopes to achieve. It strives to incorporate everything that plays loved about the classic JRPG games found on PS1, SNES, and NES. That's the objective that will ultimately rekindle early console gaming nostalgia and get players to fall in love with the world created in 8-Bit Adventures 2.
Does the demo showcase that it's heading in the right direction? While it's teetering on the fence of fully committing to classical mechanics or making it more accessible for a broader audience, the nostalgia is undoubtedly there. You're thrown into an 8-bit world of pixelated level design, dedicated turn-based combat, and scrolling dialogue that dictates every detail of the adventure.
8-Bit Adventures 2 is throwing a lot into the pot to ensure plenty of gameplay options. Lots of towns and dungeons to explore, many travel options, and some rich characters all included. While we haven't experienced the full spectrum of what's been promised yet, there are signs to say that 8-Bit Adventures will be quite the journey. Especially when you compare it to the game's predecessor.
It really does look like the grandiose JRPG that it promises to be. Gameplay already achieves its objectives of rekindling nostalgia through design and UI. It's just about whether 8-Bit Adventures 2 manages to keep its players engaged throughout what will likely be tens to hundreds of hours of gameplay. If it keeps up the pace of the demo, we think it should be a winner!
Back to Basics
What's the first thing you think of when you see 8-Bit Adventures 2? We're going to guess it's the Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger series. Well, you'd be right in thinking that the game plays exactly like the two highly-acclaimed game franchises - and that's a good thing. 8-Bit Adventures manages to pay homage to classic JRPGs for all the right reasons.
The game is a holistic and wholesome approach to delivering that gaming experience that seemed long forgotten - a focused, single-player game that touched hearts as much as it challenged. So despite some gameplay nuances that need a bit of work, 8-Bit Adventures 2 may well be the one to play when it finally gets a release date.
