Grapple Dog

With the recent release of Grapple Dog, fans of 2D Pixel genre style games are in for a real treat, get it? Well either way, the developers from Medallion Games have created a well rounded game with thrilling gameplay and stunning graphics which are done so well that you will find yourself forgetting this is a pixel based game. Throughout this entirely enjoyable adventure you will find yourself traversing through six worlds and thirty three levels packed with hidden areas ready to be explored, secret collectables scattered around the maps and some challenging boss battles. Pablo the grapple dog and friends set off on an adventure, sailing through the world completing quests and adding new friends to your fellowship.

Gameplay

The game is quite simple as you can imagine from most 2D Pixel based games, however there is no lack in enjoyment from the overall difficulty that Grapple Dog poses for its players. That doesn’t mean it will be a walk in the park by any means though, consider a similar challenge we see from the Super Mario Bros. games in terms of difficulty. Moving right to left, jumping and shooting your trusty grapple gun constitute the game mechanics, but there is also an abundance of in game gadgets, gizmos and cannons which will help you progress through each level. The overall goal of the game is to stop a robotic overlord named Nul from annihilating the world, but even without trying to win the game players will find joy in playing through levels and side quests.

Features

The game itself is simplistic on the mechanics level, yet there is no lack of excitement during gameplay. The graphics and animations are executed near perfectly, bringing to life a 2D game so much so that it really does pop off the screen. The wonderfully done graphics are paired nicely with a quirky soundtrack, only engulfing you deeper into the world that is Grapple Dog to no protest by players. The smaller aspects within the game are not lost in terms of attention to detail. Driving the boat around, petting dogs etc. adds a certain element to the overall experience, which results in a well rounded gaming experience for fans of the genre.

Pros:

• Bold, creative graphics design utilizing vivid colour schemes make the whole game pop off the screen.
• Fun levels with moderate difficulty ensuring gamers of nearly all ages will be able to beat the game while enjoying every second of it.

Cons:

• The only perceived con for this new release would be its limiting mechanics due to being a 2D game, however fans shouldn’t find this too bothersome once they dive in.
