Have you ever dreamed about solving crimes and figuring out what really happened? In Accident, you are a journalist who is taking a look at car accident cases and looking through clues to reveal what happened.
Your editor has a new VR program that allows you to explore the accident as it happens. You’ll be able to go back in time through the VR set, and see major car accidents in person.
As the journalist you also double as a first responder to many of these car accidents, having to provide first aid to victims as quickly as possible. If you fail to respond in the correct way, you are offered a quick rewind similar to games like Life is Strange to let you try again.
Investigate aspects
Besides the immediate first responder stuff, the game also has you look for clues around the scenes to try and unwrap what happened. This is mostly just looking around the scene and collecting clues. The investigative aspect of the game is very simplistic and doesn’t always convince the player that this is really how the accident would have happened. Once you’ve completed the investigation part of the puzzle, you find out the outcome of the accident for the victims, as well as a cutscene showing what actually happened.
For the most part this is realistic in that it could have happened that way. To add interest, these investigative adventures can take place decades or even centuries apart.
Medical advice questionable
Many reviewers have stated that some of the medical advice is extremely questionable. As an example, you can’t progress if you don’t remove the keys from the car in order to prevent a fire, but in reality airbags can suddenly deploy in these situations and break your neck.
Another example is that loosening a seatbelt while a victim is inside a car can accidentally worsen internal bleeding. Otherwise, the game does have fairly good medical advice including CPR and more. It’s just important to remember this is a game, and not to take this as seriously as a first-aid course.
Relatively short gameplay
There aren’t a whole lot of scenarios to go through. The game is complete after just 2-3 hours. You can make it stretch out longer by taking a break between scenarios and letting it sink in. The scenarios can feel fairly intense, so taking a mental break can also help ease some of the tension while playing.
This game is entertaining but shouldn’t be taken as a serious simulator in what to do in a car crash. Although many of the medical aspects aren’t accurate, the game still manages to provide food for thought on what you might do if you see a serious car accident on the road.
The game may also be traumatic for some people, as the very first scenario involves a child possibly dying, and most of the ‘good’ outcomes aren’t really all that good in terms of people surviving.
Pros:
- Entertaining scenarios with semi-realism
- Graphics are reasonably well done
Cons:
- Medical advice can be dangerous
