Angry Birds Rio

In Angry Birds Rio, you must help save tropical birds captured by evil poachers and return them back to the wild. Instead of smashing pigs to pay them back for taking your eggs, you must smash cages to free birds in a giant warehouse. The resulting game is fast-paced, fun, and just as challenging as the first two games in the series.

60 levels to keep you entertained

The developers, Rovio, lavished the game with a generous 60 levels to challenge your mind and bird-flinging skills. Each level is unique, and as the game progresses gets a bit crazier than the last. At one point only monkeys are in the level, and you have to figure out how to smash them all.

Colorful art and sound

The original Angry Birds became popular in part because of its bright colors and beautiful artwork. Angry Birds Rio took that artwork to the next level with beautiful new birds and other animals while still maintaining that colorful vibe. The sound is also appropriate for the game, with the sound looking and feeling like an upgrade to the originals in the franchise.

Not very innovative

As beautiful as the artwork is, Angry Birds Rio plays almost exactly the same as Angry Birds. It’s the same physics puzzler that it always was. Although the game is still enjoyable as it is, it is slightly disappointing that there is nothing new or innovative to help carry the game forward. Although the game is still entertaining and beautifully done, if you’ve played any of the other games in the series there is nothing that will surprise you.

Considering how popular the earlier games in the franchise are, it’s fine if there are no new changes to the game. After all, why change something if it has worked for millions of players to great success in the past?

More polished than past games

Although there isn’t much new in Angry Birds Rio, it’s obvious that Rovio has come along way since those early days. The levels feel more polished than in the past, with gameplay a lot tighter and the overall game free of bugs. At the very end the final boss is very well done, and hints at the innovation that could have made the game transcend into a top tier mobile game.

As it is, Angry Bird Rio is still fun to play, and is definitely a great value on Mobile platforms. The price for ipad is a bit more disappointing, considering there is no added value to the game for the additional price tag, but it is still not bad at $4.99.

8

Overall, Angry Birds Rio is a clever addition to the Angry Birds franchise. The game offers a lot to the player, using the same physics-based gameplay people have come to adore. While there isn’t anything really new or innovative to the game, that doesn’t mean it is dull. If you loved slinging Angry Birds at pigs in the original games, you’ll love slinging them at poachers too.

Pros:

  • Good value for mobile games
  • Polished gameplay
  • 60 levels to play
  • Improved graphics and sound

Cons:

  • Not very innovative
