City building games are a hugely popular genre for good reason. It’s satisfying to watch a single building turn into a vast empire under your capable hands. City: Skylines – Financial Districts is an add on package to an original city building game that not only lets you build a city but manage the finances in it too. The extension adds the ability to invest in the game. The extension adds over 100 assets to the game, as well as unlocking investing. Players get a new building zone that lets them put in large office buildings. This new feature needs to be unlocked by reaching the “Big Town” size before it can be added.

Other features include new buildings like the bank building, and white vans that collect money. These vans have the added benefit of reducing crime in the area while they are collecting money.

Invest in Your Favorite Businesses

You can also directly invest in businesses. There’s a huge variety of areas you can invest in including deathcare, healthcare, oil, ore, farming, generic industry, and logistics. You can watch your investments grow and develop through a new tab added to the game.

Work Life Balance

Not all the changes this extension makes are positive to your sims. The new zone provides a lot for your city, like big office buildings and new building styles. Before you scramble to replace your old offices with these fancy new ones though, you need to be aware these come at a price.

Although the new office buildings are better in a lot of ways, they do decrease happiness. Players will need to find ways to balance the unhappiness from these zones with other features that increase happiness to keep the city at peace.

A Unique Add On

Sim City: Skylines is known for its unique additions. In the past, add-ons have allowed you to create concerts, new industries, and even natural disasters. Past city simulators like the original Sim City kept their finances really simple, with tax rate the only way a sim formed its opinion on the city.

This new add on provides a fresh burst of realism for the game and adds a fun new aspect to the game. The addition of investments gives you a tycoon style addition to experiment with, while also giving you new buildings to add to your ever-growing city. It’s a unique addition separate from many of the other extensions.

Sim City: Skylines – Financial Districts adds a new angle to the same old game you love. While it isn’t a huge expansion, there’s still a lot of worthwhile content to play with. The new zone and buildings can add character to your city, while the investments are almost like their own mini-game.
