Anime and gaming are like best friends, they’ve always gone well together, ad they’ve been together pretty much since gaming exists. And when we’re talking about animes, not many names are bigger than Dragon Ball, that’s why there are so many games inspired by this legendary anime and manga series. The series created by Akira Toriyama has been an icon of anime for decades, and it even became an icon for Japan itself, as it was shown in the 2020 Japanese Olympics. There are dozens of Dragon Ball games, but today we’ll be focusing on Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2. Developed by Namco Bandai, it was originally released in Japan in 2014. So, what’s this game all about? Let’s get started.
About the game
Even though Dragon Ball is mostly an action anime, and probably the action anime by excellence, this series of games isn't action-based. Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2 is a card-based fighting game, the second one of the Heroes Ultimate Mission 2 franchise. Ultimate Mission 2 includes missions from every one of the 21 Dragon Ball Heroes iterations, and over 2000 different cards available. The characters that appear in the game are from all over the Dragon Ball franchise.
This is something like a direct sequel of the first games, and one of the cool things about this being so direct is that you get to keep all the cards you've acquired in the first game, and you'd even get special cards if you had the first game. In other words, the game gives us many hours of fun without having to start from scratch, which is pretty nice. Of course, it also comes with new cards and lots of completely new content.
Calmed-down gameplay?
Yes, it's true that Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2 is a card-based fighting game, but that doesn't make it any less exciting. The fight scenes and the attacks look gorgeous, with great animations that really feel a lot like the anime. Of course, it is not as intense as games like Dragon Ball Fighter Z, which is quite possibly one of the best Dragon Ball games. Nor does it simulate the original adventure like Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot does, but nonetheless, the real Dragon Ball fans are sure to have a blast here.
Review: 7.5/10

Even so, the game might seem a bit too calm to some people who prefer more hardcore games. It's definitely worth trying at least once.
The game has a lot of content, and also great replay value, which is great. Not to mention that the game also has some cool minigames, and overall makes it a very nice competitive gaming experience.
