The Dynasty Warriors franchise is already a veteran in the industry, and pretty much the main title to look at when talking about what's pretty much its own genre: the musou. Set in the last periods of the Han Dynasty until the unification of China, it is characterized for letting us play as some of the most legendary generals Luo Guanzhong wrote about in his XIV century story|. The latest entry in the series is the expansion titled Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires, and it expands on the ninth numbered title of the series. But what is this expansion about? Well, let's start by talking a little about the base game first, and move on to the expansion.

About the game

As we mentioned earlier, this game once again covers Romance of the Three Kingdoms. But unlike previous entries in this series, it is based on more open-world mechanics than all the previous titles of the series. Whereas until now, the series is based on missions and levels, this time we got the freedom to explore all the maps as freely as we want, with the usual limitations of open-world games of course.

Aside from that the mechanics of the musou game genre are here and they are heavily developed. After all, this franchise is the jewel of the crown of the genre so you should expect something great, and Koei Tecmo and Omega Force have had more than enough games of this style to master it. Now, what's up with the expansion?

Empires

For fans of the franchise, this subtitle as an expansion is nothing new, as we even got Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires in the past. What is it exactly? While in the base game the action and the fightings are the core of the story and the plot development, in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires things are different.

This expansion is based more on diplomacy and uniting the three kingdoms under one same flag together by strategy and reaching agreements. But do keep in mind that this can be even tougher than fighting hundreds of enemies.

Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires is set to be an excellent expansion to an already great game. Dynasty Warriors has come a long way since its beginnings, and Koei Tecmo has expanded the genre by developing games in the genre for other well-known franchises.

Some of the best examples of this are the recent Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, based on The Legend Of Zelda franchise, and Fire Emblem Warriors.

The Empire's expansion adds great depth to an already fun game, so it's the best way to enjoy this game if you want to focus more on the strategy and diplomacy parts of war, rather than the fighting. But don't worry, there's more than enough fighting to keep you entertained.
