Fable 4 is easily among the most expected games of this year, and this is without even having a release date. There's a lot of rumors revolving around the next entry of the legendary game series. But as usual, it is important to take everything with a grain of salt, as not much is announced, or even confirmed yet.
So, what is it that we’ve got so far as it relates to the newest entry in the Fable franchise? Well, let’s talk about that.
To start off, we've been calling it Fable 4, but technically we don't even have a name for it just yet. We can't be sure it will be the next main entry for the series or if it's just a spin-off. It all started when back in July we got this teaser trailer titled with Fable at the end. No gameplay, not much story, and no confirmation of release year, nor even the game style.
The lack of a numbered title could be a creative decision to make things more simple. It could be a new start for the series, it could even be a spin-off title too. We don’t know yet what to make of it, so this isn’t even confirmed either.
Little has been leaked too about the game, most prominent insiders have revealed that we'll not be seeing an MMO as many fans predicted. We also have heard that the game could be an open world. Most likely it will remain true to the precursor titles and stay in the same line of gameplay.
As for the engine, while some sources leaked that the game would have an entirely new engine made for it, everything points in a different direction. And this is a little more of a safe bet since it's based on a job listing they made recently. Playground Games is looking for software development for an open-world game using the ForzaTech engine, the very same used in the Forza Horizon and Forza Motorsport titles.
It has also been heavily implied that while the MMO option is basically out of the table, online features are actually on the way. Even though there’s no news of how they’d implement this. It could be a new version of the CO-op mode we’ve seen in past Fable games. But we’ll have to wait to know more about this.
Even though there’s little info confirmed so far about the new Fable game, they are usually great titles. The lack of a numbered title isn’t really surprising as this is a common strategy for developers when they don’t want their games to sound so tacky and numbered. Just like it happened when the fourth entry in the God of War series was simply called God of War.
The humor, fantasy, big gameplay, moral mechanics, and more in Fable are already legendary. Throughout the years they've been consistent in how good they are, and we are hoping this next entry also delivers to be a great, solid title.
