Flatworld

Ok, So I have to say before we get into this that Flatworld as I write this is coming to early access and there is not exactly a ton of information about this game out there just yet. I thought it would be fun to take a look at what this action-adventure game is offering. Also, when you see the title picture for this game and then watch the gameplay trailer it is pretty crazy how different a style the in-game graphics to the “promotional” art is.

A World Close To Ours

Not a ton of the finer details about the story of Flatworld are known yet. We do know that the game is going to a kind of manga style of story and that is pretty evident from the trailer. A new world has been discovered called Flatworld that is parallel to ours. A big corporation has decided to head to Flatworld in order to basically pillage it for their own greedy needs.

Your parents work for this company and now you are trying to find out what is really going on. You along with some friends will head to this other world and try to save the day. They have said that the story will unfold in the form of sagas to give it a kind of anime TV-style feel.

Action With A Lot Of Adventure

The gameplay looks like a lot of fun. You have different characters that you can play as in the game and they will have different abilities. You are able to link abilities together which is going to come in very handy when you are solving puzzles. For example, you may have one character powering up some kind of power source to move a platform so the other character can get to a new area.

There is also going to be a lot of combat in the game as well as the puzzles. There are these dungeons that you will have to navigate where you will need to put a beating on various enemies to make sure that they are put back in their place. It is a rather chill game all things considered and it looks like the type that will be very easy to get into the “flow” of things and have fun with.

A Mixture Of Style

The first time that I saw Flatworld on Steam, I saw the title picture and thought this was going to be “anime” in the art department. That could not be further from the truth, this game looks like some kind of cross between Doraemon Story of Seasons and Animal Crossing. It has a nice and bright style to the graphics and a very simplistic kind of design that I personally dig.

There are many locations in the game that are based on real parts of the world. As well as exploring dungeons, an Arabian-style area, the forest, a Wild West looking place and more are all here with their own vibe that keeps things interesting.

Pros:

• I find the whole premise of the story very interesting
• You can control different characters
• Characters have their own abilities
• There is a nice amount of variety to the areas in the game

Cons:

• Not much has been shown off about the game
• Is it in danger of being too simplistic?
