I have to start by saying that Hapymaher is the kind of game that you have to be in the mood to play before you start it. This is an eroge that demands that the player pays attention to every aspect of the story. It is a truly engaging story and one that will stick with you for a few days once you have played through it.

Dreams Within Dreams

When you talk about a game that is as story-driven as Hapymaher is you have to be very careful about what you say. So, with that in mind, I am going to give you the basics of what is going on here in terms of the story. Yohru Naitou is a young guy who after an accident always has lucid dreams. These are the kind of dreams where you know you are dreaming in your dream.

His dreams seem real and he is never sure what is real and what is not. Things get even stranger when a girl called Maia appears in his dream. She can help him, but there is a darkness to this all and only he can really decide what his fate is. I know that I have made this sound very confusing and the story is, but it all works and works very well.

Is This Real? Or Is It Just Fantasy?

I have to say that the visuals on offer in Hapymaher are phenomenal. They were so great that I had to stop playing to see if this was actually an anime that had been turned into a game! That is how good the visuals on offer here are. The character models have a very anime look to them and there are some that are appealing….. and some that are not, but you will have to play the game to see what I mean by that. The characters, the backgrounds, everything in this game looks great and the soundtrack is just perfect as well. The game has a very dreamlike vibe to it all and just like the main character, you are never truly sure what is real and what is happening in the dream.

Going With The Sleepy Flow

I have to say that this is not exactly stacked with gameplay, this is a visual novel game where the story is what you are here for. So, with that in mind, do not expect to be doing a lot in terms of the gameplay.

I am cool with that, but I do know some people like to have a bit more gameplay in their visual novel games. The game does offer a couple of routes for you to play through so there is some replay value on offer here.

I have nothing bad at all to say about Hapymaher. I thought I was going to like this game before I started it, but I was completely blown away by how great this story was. The characters are very engaging and not knowing for sure what is real or what is a dream is a very interesting way of keeping the player on their toes the whole time that they are playing. If you like visual novel eroge games then this one is one of the finest you will play.
