Story
Following in the footsteps of fighting games like Mortal Kombat 9, Injustice Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition features a multi-chapter story mode with an original narrative. Jumping between realities and including multiple versions of beloved characters, the story is wild and full of cool references. At the start of the story, Batman's nemesis the Joker tries to destroy Superman's home of Metropolis, but the Justice League stops him just in time. Unexpectedly, several heroes of the Justice League are transported to another universe, where an evil Superman holds the earth hostage. Working with the alternate universe version of Batman, who has established a rebellion against evil Superman's regime, our heroes fight back and forth trying to save their own realities. Tons of DC characters pop up, including Harley Quinn, Cyborg, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Deathstroke, and much more. Injustice Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition gives us the kind of insane crossover story that would require a hundred comic books to tell right, all contained in one awesome campaign mode.
Gameplay
Injustice Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition takes its gameplay inspiration from other modern fighters like Mortal Kombat X and Dead or Alive, pitting two fighters against each other in side-facing combat. This version of the game contains every DLC character as well, adding crazy characters like Scorpion, General Zod, and Martian Manhunter. Every character feels different and has a long list of special moves to learn, including devastating finishing moves you can perform at the end of fights. Although they're not as gory as the fatalities you see in Mortal Kombat, they're still very cool and fit the characters.
Injustice Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition is overflowing with content, so once you're finished with the story mode you'll have plenty of other things to do. There are a few common fighting game modes like Training and Versus, but there are a few unique ones that really stand out. For example, you can try out the S.T.A.R.S Labs mode, which contains over 200 character-specific challenges for you to complete. Once you're all trained up, you can take your fists to the online arena, fighting in ranked and friendly game modes. Although the game can be pretty laggy online, it's a small price to pay when you get to perform a finishing move with your favorite superhero.
Conclusion
Injustice Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition settles some old playground debates in the coolest way, giving players the possibility to match up their favorite heroes and villains in tough fights. Playing against a friend online or locally is fun, but the story mode and S.T.A.R.S Labs challenge mode are where the most fun can be had.
Comic book fans and fighting game experts will both agree that Injustice Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition is a big success.
