Can you survive on a mysterious island in which all of its inhabitants have succumbed to a deadly plague? Also, there might be an ancient curse, so you best be careful with that, too. Sounds a bit too much? Well, that’s the challenging scenario of KeepUp Survival, an exciting survival game that will take you (and your friends) on a hectic quest for survival.

For an early-access title, KeepUp Survival has all the makings of an instant genre classic. Not only does it feel great to play, but the mysteries which are strewn about on the island you must explore are all fun to discover and exciting to experience.

Adapt and Explore

While some games will have the player character only struggling for survival against the elements, KeepUp Survival also includes some mystery elements into the mix to keep players entertained while they manage their needs. It’s something similar to what we’ve seen from titles like ARK: Survival Evolved, where solving mysteries also becomes an integral part of the survival experience.

At its core, the game has all of the same elements we’ve come to expect from games of this genre. Players must hunt for food, gather water, craft weapons or tools, and avoid being attacked by hostile wildlife. These basics are present and accounted for here, so if you know how to play a survival game, then you won’t struggle with the controls or the basic mechanics of KeepUp Survival.

From a visual point of view, KeepUp Survival looks quite similar to Dayz. In terms of online gameplay, however, the game presents a much more focused approach to the genre, where surviving is much more integral to player progression rather than the interaction with other players.

The island itself is covered with trees and vegetation, rocks, caves, rivers, and even small mountains. This means that, as you progress through the story mode, you must learn to adapt your tactics and strategy in order to survive.

Uncover the Mysteries

As we mentioned earlier, the island you are now trapped in has its fair share of mysteries to discover. Ancient statues and crypts await in the darkest corners of the island, luring adventurers with promises of riches beyond compare. The problem is, that it will be tough to get there without the proper equipment or supplies. If you want to find these treasures, then you will need to become stronger and tougher, so don’t waste time!

Surviving is fine and all, but the game becomes considerably more fun once you learn to manage your needs and just go out exploring with your friends. The multiplayer component of the game has its fair share of communication bugs, but since the title is still in early access, we expect some of these glitches to be fixed in time for the KeepUp Survival’s eventual release.

The game is still rocky in some areas: animations and character models look great, and the environments can look quite pretty from a distance, but the game world as a whole still feels a bit lifeless. Here’s hoping that the developers keep adding more and more content to this impressively solid survival title.
