The Re Mind DLC is split up into two parts, really; part of it is good fun, the other half is a tedious retelling of the ending of the game itself. If you are a huge KH fan, you might want to pick up KINGDOM HEARTS III Re Mind. Otherwise? It might be worth reading or watching the plot instead.
As one of the most beloved crossovers in history, the Kingdom Hearts series has become a fan favourite. Taking the best of the Final Fantasy series and combining it with a host of Disney classics, you get a very whacky and interesting game to play through. The third instalment of the series was relatively well-received, to the point where numerous DLC products were released. Chief among those releases was KINGDOM HEARTS III Re Mind.
A continuation of the madness
One thing to note about KH is that the plot jumped the shark about two hours into the first game, and has barely gotten itself back on track since. The game is littered with confusing plot twists and, to be blunt, pretty nonsensical major plotlines. However, the third title in the series is well-regarded as an enjoyable game with a more coherent story than some other KH releases. Sadly, KINGDOM HEARTS III Re Mind returns to being a bit more inconsistent with how it spins its yarn.
The only DLC for KH3, Re Mind manages to bore players and annoy them in equal measure. Those who finished the main game will find themselves facing off against retreads of old bosses whilst enjoying only minor improvements to some of the issues that blighted the original game. In short, the plot goes wild again, the actual moment-to-moment gameplay is pretty dull, and most of the action is just repeats of what we’ve already done – Re Mind indeed.
A Heartless DLC
Sadly, there is not much that we can really recommend about trying out KINGDOM HEARTS III Re Mind. If you are serious about seeing the story unfold in-person, then yes you might wish to try it out. If you are even slightly ambivalent about the post-game content, though, then Re Mind is probably best watched or ignored.
While it comes with a very interesting superboss that is sure to take players a while to defeat, you also need to deal with a gluttony of retread content that feels rushed, generic, and dour.
The whole thing is a decent enough package, with some decent gameplay modifiers added in for longer-term players. The actual new content, though, is not really worth the hours of grinding and repeating the same old stuff to see all over again unfortunately.
Pros:
- Introduces some new superboss and side content that is worthwhile New gameplay modifiers can take things to a whole new level for veterans
Cons:
- Retread and boring content that lacks anything like the typical KH invention
- Much of the content is a simple repeat of previous bosses and gameplay moments
