Ever wonder how the French Revolution would have gone if there was another, mystically powerful force trying to defeat both sides? In Liberte we find ourselves in an alternate history world where seemingly paranormal monsters have infiltrated all that is sacred, led by the ever powerful and terrifying Lady Bliss.

You are brought back from death by the Lady who holds dominion over your soul now, expecting you to do her bidding wherever she sees fit. Throughout the game you can choose to fight with the four factions clashing to regain control over a city in turmoil ever since King Louis mysteriously died. Fight with the Tribe, the Crown, the Congregation or continue the anarchistic carnage with the Rebels. The game plays on the imagination and curiosity through one of the world’s most famous revolutions ever to be recorded, and with the added aspect of death defying monsters of the unknown players should have no time to grow bored of this game.

Storyline

The game has drawn inspiration heavily from that of author H.P. Lovecraft, famous for his fiction regarding the unknown elements and monstrous potential of what humans just don’t know. The monsters within this game are made through Lady Bliss’s power, a blight which turns fellow countrymen into soulless monsters. You must balance many aspects of the game. while attempting to solve the mysterious blight and free the people of your land from this newfound mystical oppression. Fight the power of Lady Bliss, make your way into her evil gardens and destroy the power she holds over the land through this action/indie/RPG game which shares similarities to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Gameplay

Choosing who to fight with can be tricky, as long as you hold your morals tightly and don’t let the ugly side of this world change you. Or let it affect you and fight with the Rebels who enjoy the anarchistic state before them. You can also choose to fight with the Crown in hopes of reinstating the monarch, fight with the Congregation to uplift the church, or fight for the spiritualistic with the Tribe.

Through challenges you begin collecting cards which you can increase the strength and abilities of your character by, which will be necessary if you hope to eventually defeat Lady Bliss herself. The combat is well done although in certain areas the graphics and animations seem to lack overall conviction, though this isn’t a major issue by any means.

Pros:

• Strong storyline and overall plot that has clearly been well thought out by developers.

Cons:

• Although considered an indie game, the graphics can be a tad grainy and in certain aspects just doesn’t cut it for hardcore fans of the genre.
