London Racer: Police Madness is a reverse take on the typical hot rod racing game. If you have never been a fan of running from authority, but you still want the exhilaration of high-speed chases, this game is perfect for you, as you actually get to be the authority instead of run from it.
As an old game, the graphics and visual content could never compare to any game on the market today, of course, as Mario Kart on an iPhone has better graphics than a lot of PCs from the early 2000s. However, the game is not completely unbearable, as you can still tell what things are and it is good enough to simulate what the game was intended to. Cars are a bit blocky in nature as well as a low rendered world, but this also helps in a sense, making the player focus on their main task at hand and play the game directly, instead of focusing on other, distracting elements that may be in a high-rendered game.
Imagine Need for Speed from a different perspective... no, not a different camera angle. Ever wondered what the cop goes through while chasing street racers like yourself? London Racer: Police Madness is just what that is. Taking a different route from the typical London Racer games, Police Madness teaches players the other side of the story, maybe appreciating the cops just a little more. After all, what is the point to a chase without someone chasing you? The gameplay is not as simple as just drive around and ram into speeding cars, however.
There are missions, side objectives, and plenty of things to keep you busy on long chases. Maybe you are tasked with shooting at a car while hanging from your vehicle window, or hitting three cars in a row without crashing. You can never be certain about what you will be tasked with, making Police Madness a great way to get you on your toes and think fast to catch the speedy criminal.
London Racer: Police Madness is definitely nothing incredibly special, but it is not a complete waste either. Personally, I would go for something newer, like Need for Speed or CSR Racing, but to each their own. All things considered, Police Madness is a very old game that is simply surpassed by other games. I would rate this game a 6/10 at best.
- Difference perspective from typical high-speed chase games
- Side missions to keep long chases from getting boring
- No visual distractions
- Chases can get somewhat repetitive on the same road
- Lacks a story line like some Need for Speed games or other racing games
- Very basic depictions of cars and environment, harder to crash than it is to not
