Mysteries are one of the most engaging styles of game out there, and Lord Winklebottom Investigates is set to be the most hilarious mystery players have seen in decades. In this alternative universe where animals take on the roles of humans, Lord Winklebottom is a giraffe detective solving a mystery in 1920s London.

Showcased at EGX 2019, this game was well received by those who played the demo, which covers the first part of Lord Winklebottom’s adventure. In the game you play Lord Winklebottom as he and his sidekick, a hippo named Dr. Frumple, attempt to find passage to London.

The game is a point-and-click style adventure and can be favorably compared to Monkey Island. It has the same style, the same humor, and the same upbeat style.

This is the first game developed completely solo by Charlotte Sutherland. Although its her first personal project, she has helped in the creation of many other games including LittleBigPlanet 3 and LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga. Despite this being her first personal project, it already hints at being successful with the amount of buzz being generated. As an example in 2019 Charlotte Sutherland completed a successful kickstarter for the game, raising over 12,000 pounds.

Engaging Graphics

The graphics in this game aren’t perfect, but they also don’t try to be. They’re meant to be cute and perhaps a little bit retro. It does a great job of this, with detailed backdrops that manage to convey both the location and the mood all at once.

Sometimes the graphics of Lord Winklebottom and Dr. Frumple look a bit off, but this could also be because it was in a demo and still had some tweaking to do.

Solve puzzles

In this game, Lord Winklebottom is investigating the death of his beloved friend. In order to do this, he must interview other animals, uncover clues, and sort through the suspects to find the killer. Puzzles include everything from solving a puffin’s problems in order to gain passage on their boat, to figuring out how to access your friend, an axolotl’s body so you can perform an autopsy and discover the true cause of death.

It turns out this is a murder, and the killer is still at large. With your help, Lord Winklebottom can solve the mystery of his beloved friend, and bring justice to him once and for all. As an avid detective, this is your duty, especially since it is a friend that needs the help.
