One of the things that blew my mind about Saints Row: The Third Remastered was the realization that this game is now ten years old. How the heck did that happen? It means I am getting old man! Anyway, I played the hell out of the original on the Xbox 360 and now the remastered version is making its way to STEAM I thought that there was no better time than now to get reacquainted with this series.
Caught Between A Rock And A Hard Place
One of the main things that I really love about this series is how over the top it has always been. What we have here with Saints Row: The Third Remastered is the exact same story that was in the original game, but I am cool with that as it was a lot of fun.
The basics are that you are once again the leader of the gang and now, five years after the events of Saints Row 2, things in the city of Steelport have gone to hell. On one side of things, we have The Syndicate who are a crime organization and on the other side we have the military group trying to keep The Syndicate in line, S.T.A.G, you are caught in the middle!
Look, there is no denying that Saints Row: The Third Remastered is a Grand Theft Auto clone, but that is not a bad thing. This is arguably the best of all the GTA clones and I think the fact that the game is silly and crazy does more than enough to set it apart from Grand Theft Auto. This is an open-world 3rd person action game and the city has a ton of stuff for you to do.
You are basically trying to take control of the city from The Syndicate and the various street gangs that also want to do the same kind of thing. There are your main missions, side missions, and a ton of stuff in the city that you can screw around with to keep you busy.
One thing that Saints Row: The Third Remastered does not get enough credit for (well the original game, but you know what I mean) is the player progression. Now you can use cash and respect to progress in the game. With money, you are able to buy land, weapons, and various upgrades. The way respect works is like an XP system where you earn points and you can then use these points to get new abilities.
So, What Is New?
The most notable thing that makes this worth playing in 2021 is the improved visuals. They have actually redone many of the assets and the game has a much more “HD” kind of look to it. The original version was in HD, but things like the lighting, shadows, and the overall color look much better here. They have also thrown in all of the DLC that was released for the game too.
Saints Row: The Third Remastered is a game that is all about having fun. This remastered version is the best way to play the game as the presentation certainly does help you get more into the game. The fact that you get all of the DLC as part of the package is really cool and another reason as to why this is well worth your time.
- I love the new and improved visuals
- It comes will all the previously released DLC
- There are tons of missions to get into
- The story is completely over the top, crazy and I love it
- Steelport is not the most interesting city
- If the original did nothing for you, this will not win you over
