It is crazy that there have been so few good dodgeball games, but Knockout City from EA is looking to change that. As soon as I saw the trailer for this game, I knew it was something that I had to take a closer look at. It is all about playing with your friends, having a great time and hitting people in the face with a ball of course!
Rule The City!
The whole idea behind Knockout City is that you are part of a crew that is going to rule the city and the way that this city is ruled is through dodgeball! I do not think there has been a good dodgeball game since Super Dodgeball on the NES! Anyway, the premise is simple, knockout your opponents more times than they knock you out and you will be the winner.
In the game, you get to create your own character and there is a lot of ways that you can customize them. I have no doubt in my mind that skins and other accessories are going to be added to the game in huge amounts throughout the year. Your own character is going to be something that you become pretty attached to. You can try and play on your own if you want, but for me, this is one game that I will 100 percent be playing with my friends.
How Do You Win?
Each level in the game has its own kind of gimmick such as these tubes you can travel in or streets with traffic driving past. The idea is that you need to throw the ball at your opponent and take them out of the game. There are special balls that have special abilities you can use and you can even turn yourself into a ball and let a teammate throw you if there are no balls around.
What I think is going to make Knockout City a very addictive game is just how smooth and fluid the controls are. If you have played a game like Fortnite Battle Royale or even Splatoon, this is going to have a real sense of familiarity to it in regards to the way that it plays. Also, visually I get some real Fortnite and Splatoon vibes from the way the game looks too.
Playing The Game
Currently, a free for all, 3 vs 3, and 4 vs 4 game modes are planned, but I have no doubt that extra modes (just like in Fortnite) are going to be added throughout the year.
Special events and limited-time events have already been said to be in the works for this game. I think it is cool how there is a free for all mode so that you can just have some fun playing on your own until your buddies are online so that you can all play together.
I think that Knockout City is one of those games that is kind of hard to talk about. Not because it is not good, but because it is the kind of game that is all about having fun and you need to actually play the game in order to see how much fun it is. While I am sure that you could have some fun playing this on your own. Playing with your friends and communicating with people is clearly the intent here.
You can make your own cool looking custom character I like the way it is so focused on playing with your friends There are different maps that you can battle on This could very well be the best dodgeball game ever!
I do worry it will have a lot of microtransactions (this is EA!) Nothing has been said about when the first event will happen
