Shining Force Neo is an action RPG released all the way back in 2005 for the PlayStation 2. If you played this game when you were younger, you no doubt know how great it is, so consider downloading it to experience some nostalgia. If you’ve never heard of Shining Force Neo though, don’t worry, as I’ll go over everything you need to know about this game that was ahead of its time when it was first released. First, let me talk about the gameplay.
A hack and slash adventure
The type of gameplay you see in Shining Force Neo is what’s known as Hack and Slash, meaning there’s a heavy focus on real-time melee-based attacks for you to defeat enemies with. If you’ve ever played Dynasty Warriors 9 or any previous games in the Dynasty Warriors series, you’ll be familiar with the type of gameplay I’m talking about. It’s incredibly fun and doesn’t require advanced knowledge of controls and combos, meaning anyone can pick it up with ease. Whether you’re a gaming veteran or are new to the action game genre, I guarantee you’ll have a blast with Shining Force Neo.
A gripping story
Though the gameplay is probably the best part of this game, the story is pretty great too. You get to play as a character called Max, a young warrior that's about to complete his training to become a powerful hero. As a hero character, you’re one of the few people able to stop rampant evil forces from taking over the world. Will you be successful? It’s up to you to find out when you download Shining Force Neo and play it for yourself. Meet new characters, travel the world, and fight your way to victory as you put a stop to the evil forces plaguing the world once and for all.
A range of weapons
Shining Force Neo gives you many different weapons to work with, letting you essentially choose your own playstyle. If you like being up close and personal with your enemies, then equip a sword and go for it, but if you prefer attacking from a distance, ranged weapons are available too. There are even magical weapons and spells you can take advantage of if that’s something you want to do. How cool does that sound?
Shining Force Neo was a great game when it came out in 2005, and though there are better games around now, it’s still well worth playing, especially if you like games with a more retro aesthetic. The best part is that this game is super easy to pick up, too, as mentioned earlier, so don't worry about things being too complicated. You're going to love it!
- Very fun hack and slash gameplay
- A range of weapon options are available so you can customise your play style
- Great soundtrack
- Graphics are a bit outdated
- The campaign is quite long and can feel very grindy at times
