Space, the final frontier, one of humanity’s biggest goals and dreams since the beginning of time has been to go further and see what’s beyond the stars. But even with that, one of the first, and most important space explorers in history was man’s best friend, a dog! This year, 2022, marks the 65 anniversary of the mission that took Laika, the brave little dog, to space. Sadly she never made it back to earth. And to commemorate this event, Longterm Games presents Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home. Every journey changes the way of seeing things and makes the traveler grow. This game is a story about self-exploration, transformation and understanding of the world around us. But what is this game all about?

About the game

As we mentioned before, this game is loosely based on real events, back in the time of the space race, when humanity was in the middle of the fear of the Cold War, we also got entangled in the space race. In 1951, the Soviet Union sent Sputnik 1, and soon after that, we saw rockets being launched from different countries. The whole world was watching as our scientists, engineers, and astronauts tried their best to beat. The same year they launched Sputnik 2, with the brave little Laika on board. On a mission to join the stars forevermore.

The story of Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home follows the journey of a little dog named Bea in an action-puzzle platformer through mysterious alien environments, solve puzzles and meet new friends to find a way home. In this 2.5D platformer, Bea's lost in space, and we are here to help her find her way back home. She's going to need all the help possible, after all, she doesn't have any kind of superhuman strength or powers, or rather, super dogs. abilities.

Travel through layers of different alien planets and find all the new and crazy environments out there. Of course, Bea does have some special abilities thanks to being a dog, a great sense of smell or hearing, or more stuff like that. You'll also find that aliens can be much friendlier with dogs than they are with humans, after all, who does not love a good little doggy? But Bea will also need to be extra cute sometimes to win over the hearts of the aliens, some can be more demanding.

Spaces with a different face

One of the things that's interesting about video games set in space is that there are plenty of different ways to look at space. Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home could be compared a little with games like Little Orpheus, they are both based on the cold war space race. And they both have soviet cosmonauts going where nobody has ever been able to. Of course, things are different when you get to explore space and different planets as a good little dog instead of a troubled cosmonaut.

Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home may not be the most complex or biggest game, but when you evaluate it for what it is, it is a fantastic game. It can get to be pretty emotional too, with its deep story and the fact that you are playing a dog. That alone is incredible.

It is mostly focused on exploration, solving puzzles, and fighting the occasional enemies. But it takes place on different planets, each with its unique style, environment, and creatures. The game is very fun, but if you're looking for something fast-paced, this game isn't for you.
