Management games are always fun to play, even if it's not as exciting as action or adventure games, or as thrilling as a nice horror game. But for the same reasons, management games are also great for people who want to just take a break from the action and spend a while setting up a bunch of different things. The developer Haemimont Games has come up with Stranded Alien Dawn a management game that requires you to set up a colony on a new planet. It sounds simple enough, but this game can be quite challenging at times because there are many factors to consider before making your decisions. But what is this game all about? Well, let's go through that.
About the game
Stranded: Alien Dawn will allow us to perform a varied selection of tasks to ensure the survival of our group: manage the needs, health, and happiness of the survivors; build and evolve the base, including new defense measures; plant, cultivate, harvest and hunt to accumulate useful resources; and provide heat, light and much more. Don't be overwhelmed by this amount of systems, as those responsible for the game point out that the title has a complete tutorial system integrated to learn all its game mechanics.
The implacable planet we are set to survive on has limited resources and a wild climate, not to mention the risks of new illnesses and dangerous aliens that want to feed on us. You need to make sure you build the base and protection ASAP to have a little refugee and safe haven at least. This is where management comes into play since it will allow you to create structures, produce food and other necessary items, defend yourself, and so on.
As we said above, there are many ways to accomplish these objectives, which makes the game interesting and dynamic. For example, we can use the energy from the sun to generate electricity and water and then use them to power certain facilities. And expand our new society through the use of the modular base system.
Survival in the wild?
Stranded Alien Dawn mixes survival games like Ark Survival Evolved or Rust with the farm and base-building component of games like Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon. We will have to defend our base from alien creatures that attack it, collect resources and take care of our characters.
We will also have to deal with the harsh environment that surrounds us. In addition to having to fight off enemies, we'll have to find shelter, food, and drinkable water, among other necessities. Things like these aren't present in calmer management games like the previously mentioned Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon.
I think that Stranded: Alien Dawn is an excellent game to play when you're looking for something to do, especially if you enjoy management games. If you've never played one before, you should try it out. I'm pretty sure you won't regret it! One thing worth mentioning is that the graphics are very good. They are well-designed and they look realistic. A multiplayer mode would have been greatly appreciated too.
