The Devourer: Hunted Souls

I am always down for a new co-op horror game and that is why The Devourer: Hunted Souls which is in early access (with a demo you can check out) is a game that I am very high on right now. Now before you tune out because I said that this was a co-op horror game, you can still play this on your own if you want and I am sure I will at some point. However, for me, games like this are more about getting scared and having some laughs with your buddies.

The Forest Is Alive

I am not going to go into too much detail about the story of The Devourer: Hunted Souls as that is probably one of the best things about it. Basically, we are part of this paranormal research team that has headed to these dangerous and mysterious woods. We are investigating what the deal with this place is, but before we know for sure, we are attacked by creatures and in a fight for our survival. Trying to find out what this place is gives the game a real sense of mystery which I think is pretty awesome.

5 Guys, But No Burgers

As I said at the start, The Devourer: Hunted Souls is a game that is made with being played with multiplayer in mind. You can play this with five people and there are different characters for you to play as. What is neat about this is that it is more than just a cosmetic change. Different characters have different abilities and working together and making the most out of what each character offers is going to greatly increase your chance of survival. I think that it is fun how you have a bunch of ghost hunting paranormal gadgets to use as you progress through the game.

Run, Hide, Die!

The core gameplay of The Devourer: Hunted Souls sees you wandering around the forest and the surrounding areas trying to survive and also solve the mystery of what happened to the people here. The game is packed with fun jump scares that are sure to get a huge laugh out of you and your friends. However, it is the puzzles that I think are the most interesting aspect of the gameplay here. The puzzles will scale depending on how many people are playing. So, if you have a full five man team, chances are the puzzles will require more teamwork. If you start with five, but two drop out, the puzzles will change accordingly.

Back From The Dead!

Another aspect of The Devourer: Hunted Souls that I think is really cool is that you will be chased down at certain points during your ghost hunting adventure. This is where all your plans to stick together and leave no man behind can go to hell as you end up separated and scattered around the woods. Now, if you do get caught, you may think that you are just dead and it is game over. That is not the case! Instead, you are transported to a dangerous realm where you have a chance to make your way back to your buddies! This is such a neat idea and a great way to keep people who do end up getting caught from becoming bored waiting for the game to end or for the next checkpoint.

Pros:

• I love the mystery of the story
• There are different characters to play as
• The characters have their own abilities
• This is a fun horror game to play with your friends

Cons:

• I am not sure how much content will be in the game at launch
• You can play it on your own, but to get the best out of this, multiplayer is the way to go
