In the aftermath of the apocalypse, when the world burns in the flames of neverending war, humanity still refuses to go quietly into oblivion. That’s why the Heavenly Host has sent a team of “Sin Collectors” to do the jobs they don’t even dare to speak of.

As a Sin Collector called Aniketos, your job will be to punish sinners for the way they lived. How you carry out that punishment will be up to you – just keep in mind that every action has a consequence.

Based on the Sin Collector book series, Repentless plays more like an interactive novel rather than an action game like Darksiders. Thankfully, the story is so engaging and well-written, that you never feel like you’re reading someone’s fan fiction while you’re playing the game.

Of course, the times of MS-DOS text adventures are long gone. The Sin Collector: Repentless features some gorgeous art to discover throughout your adventure.

Even if The Sin Collector: Repentless is more of a “choose your own adventure” type of game, the fact remains that it offers some quite flexible approach when it comes to gameplay.

Similar to the Deus Ex franchise, players can choose how best to tackle each situation they come across. Leveling up Aniketos will offer you access to new skills and equipment that will make your journeys just a tiny bit more bearable.

The game never feels like it’s trying to be a full-fledged RPG adventure, and that’s why its unique mixture of classic RPG mechanics and visual novel is so fascinating. This is a game that will satisfy fans of both genres, and it’s made even better thanks to its riveting plot.

Made as a prequel to Michał Gołkowski’s books, The Sin Collector: Repentless offers players the same window into the fascinating world of Polish literature as The Witcher did some years ago.

Be warned, though: even if this is a visual novel, some parts of the game can be punishingly hard. Making tough moral decisions is just par for the course when it comes to being a Sin Collector, but it’s another thing entirely when you come across an event that you weren’t prepared to face at all.
