Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as the name suggests is the ultimate version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3. This was released a little later in the year after the original release which I will more than happily admit made me a bit mad! However, looking back now, if you are going to play MVC 3, this is the version of the game that you want. Not just because of the extra content, but things were tightened up and balanced more.
The Fate of Two Worlds
As is usual in these games characters from these two companies come together and either fight or work together. The main game mode is the arcade mode. In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, you still pick your team of three, but there are 12 new characters added to the mix which expands what was already a very impressive roster of characters. You fight a series of matches before taking on the big bad that is Galactus.
One of the things that I love about this series and it rings especially true for this game is that it is a game anyone can pick up and play and have a great deal of fun with. On the surface, it has a very basic control scheme. However, there is also a level of complexity here for those that want to dig in deep and truly learn not just a character, but a team of three. It is fun stuff and I think the fact the game is accessible for everyone is a reason as to why it was so popular.
Becoming A Hero
As well as your arcade and VS modes, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has a couple of other game modes too. There is a mission mode which is great if you are trying to get better at the game as it will give you certain tasks that you have to complete. There was a new mode added called Heroes and Heralds where you play the game and earn cards and these cards give you various advantages as you make your way through. It was a fantastic idea and something I would love to see Capcom revisit in a later game.
This Is MVC!
I have to say that the last Marvel Vs. Capcom game was very, very disappointing for me. The first reason was the art style that they chose. With Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, this looks like a comic book or an animated TV show that has come to life. It is flashy, it is cool and it is jam-packed with fan service! I love the way that this massive roster feels so unique from Deadpool talking a lot of trash to Ryu being all business.
I know that when a lot of people think about this series it is the second game that comes to mind, but I think that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is just as good if not better. To be honest with you, if I am in the mood for a little MVC with my son, it is 99/100 this game we fire up and play. I know that they released it way too soon after the original release, but that was like a decade ago, time heals wounds and now it is easy to see that this is what Capcom wanted to release all along.
- The game has a stacked roster
- I liked the new game mode
- The combat has been rebalanced
- Above all else, this is just a very fun game to play
- Some may still be a tad salty over how soon this was released over the original!
- Chances of getting a game of this online are pretty much zero
