Snooker is one of the world’s most traditional sports of all time. Dating back to 1875, the sport has grown and kept its popularity ever since, so naturally, a simulated game version of it was inevitable, and in WSC Real 09: World Snooker we get a fully developed game that delivers realism through gameplay, multiple tournaments, and professional players.
A Brand New Point-of-View
Expanding on the legacy of previous iterations of the 2009 version brings fresh perspectives to the green table. Players are given the option to move freely around the table and size up the situation at hand through different cameras. A shot can be set up and analyzed through POV, Bird’s-eye View, and third-person view, which helps not only with immersion but performance as well
World Wide Roster
The game provides players with over sixteen professional snooker players to choose from including legendary players like Ronnie O’Sullivan Stephen Hendry, John Higgins, and other top-level contenders. On top of that, there are multiple venues, or championship tables, to choose from and play.
Your Own Journey
WSC Real 09 has a career mode that enables players to start their journey from scratch, as an unknown player that sets out to challenge the best out there. Run through the sport’s most famous championships, on a bracket-elimination mode and prove yourself amongst the best to earn your place among them.
Realism in Artificial Intelligence
The artificial intelligence this title has was at the cutting edge of what was thought possible at the time. Asides from a well-balanced difficulty, the computer actually shows reaction to your movements and shots across the game, which add depth to the experience of playing in front of big crowds, at premier events.
Players can choose from a diverse range of modes to play Season Mode, Versus Mode, Quickplay Mode, Practice Mode, Career Mode, and the unlockable Golden Cue Mode. Asides from that players can select to play a snooker game, 9-ball table, 8-ball table, and an unlockable bar billiards mode.
The game doesn’t really go into detail about how Snooker is played, but since Snooker is a very popular game the rules are known by most players. If you’re not familiar with them the simplest explanation is that you need to pot all the red balls until only the colored ones remain. From there you have to pot them in the following order: yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, and black. After the black ball is potted, points are tallied up and the player with the most points wins the game.
For the game itself, there is plenty of aiming support to help all players achieve satisfying (while challenging) performances. The real challenge, very much like the real game, relies on positioning yourself around the table and managing the cue ball as a way to set up subsequent shots. This means selecting the appropriate power and effect behind each shot to ensure success on the next shot.
If you enjoy Snooker, Pool and/or Billiards you are probably going to enjoy this game a lot. Honestly, this is one of the best cue-based sports game I’ve played, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, there aren’t many of them out there but if you played Virtual Pool 4 or Shooters Pool, you will enjoy this one.
