Based on the television show of the same name, Airwolf puts you in command of a super-duper copter that's loaded with special abilities and armed to the teeth with all kinds of weapons!
You must confront an enemy force in a number of different scenarios including horizontally scrolling levels that pit you against land-based forces as well as first-person head-on attacks against squadrons of war planes.
Airwolf tries to give something to everyone and, in the process, comes out looking a little bit tired. The first-person/side play mechanics don't mesh very well - even though there are some nifty transition screens. Airwolf isn't overly bad, but neither one of the game levels are spectacular.
What a disappointment! Level after level of the same exact thing. The advanced levels are much harder than the early ones. The fighting sequences aren't impressive, nor difficult. Airwolf just goes to show that great names don't always mean great games.
Good concept that is too repetitive. There are extra sequences and new goals like taking on the enemy control tower and rescuing hostages, but that's not enough variety to elevate this one above average. I did like this one better than Stealth ATF, but it could have had better graphics and play.
The game opens with some cool still pictures that explain the story, but there's not much else to rave about after that. There's not much depth to play - the game has little action and it's difficult to control the helicopter in the side-view stages. Airwolf just didn't hold'my interest at all.
Airwolf is an exciting inflight battle game, based on the T.V. series of the same name. The game allows you to sit in the cockpit, as you become String-fellow Hawke, ace fighter pilot, the only one skilled enough to command a top secret Mach I helicopter. Your mission is to rescue top level American advisors that are imprisoned by foreign terrorists using the cutting edge weaponry available to you in Airwolf. Multiple screens and serial battles combine to make this a hot title.
