Many folks (myself included) class Dead Space 2 as the best out of the four games. This really is a masterpiece of a game and if you like games that mix together horror, action, and third-person shooter. You really will struggle to find a game that mixes them all together better than Dead Space 2 here.
Bigger Is Better
Dead Space 2 takes place fairly soon after the events of the first game. I think that the best way to describe the story of this game is that it is kind of like the jump from Alien to Aliens. The first Dead Space game was more “horror” and this game I feel goes more towards action. Do not get me wrong this game is going to scare the hell out of you, but it certainly is more action packed than its predecessor.
This time around the Necromorph’s have taken over a whole city and the infestation is just going to get worse. You once again play as Isaac as you do all you can to survive the horror. One thing I want to say about the story is the opening section is truly amazing stuff. You might very well say that it is “eye-opening” if you know what I mean.
Balls To The Wall Action!
While there is certainly a lot of sections that are going to make you “jump” as you play Dead Space 2. This is very much an action game at its heart. The game gives you a great range of weapons that you can use. Like before you have to dismember the Necromorph’s in order to kill them. So while you may want to just shoot like a maniac and in some cases, you may have to just let the bullets fly and hope for the best. The fact of the matter is, you really have to try and be more precise with your shots. Taking out a leg before going for the headshot for example. The game is pretty large in its scale, but it does hold your hand and lead you to the next objective very well so it is harder to get lost than not. I do kind of like this, but I can see why for some it takes away the challenge too much.
Ugly And Gorgeous
The first game has some horrible creature designs, but oh my god are some of the creatures in Dead Space 2 truly horrific! There are these ones that carry sacks and… ugh, it just gives me the creeps thinking about it and then there are the Necromorph kids! This game does not hold back with the monsters you have to kill and some are just downright awful to look at.
I mean that in the most complimentary way possible. This is a fantastic looking game, even all these years later, Dead Space 2 is a game that is very easy on the eyes… well as easy as horrific looking creatures can be of course.
I loved Dead Space 2 when it first came out and looking back, I think I appreciate it even more. It is just such a great game from start to end, while the multiplayer scene may be “dead”. That does not matter as the real draw for this game is the fantastic single player experience that it offers.
- Has a ton of action
- The monster designs are awesome!
- The story is actually very engaging
- Sets up the third game perfectly
- One of the best games of its kind
- The multiplayer is long dead
- Some might not like the handholding the game does
